Post Holiday Goodness

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. I enjoyed mine. But I must say that I am slightly happy that they are over. With the New Year occurring less than a week ago, I found that every person I came in contact with would inevitably stumble upon the question asking me what I did to enjoy the holiday. I, probably unlike most, enjoyed a wonderful dinner with my girlfriend and some friends. I think the whole night I enjoyed maybe two glasses of wine over dinner. We found entertainment in our discussion and their daughter who is learning to talk. It couldn’t have been better.

After the previous year faded into memory, and the new year began my girlfriend and I had to drive home among what my grandparents would label “the crazies!” As we drove home and entered the neighborhood in which we live, we discovered exactly why people like myself have labeled New Years Eve as amateur night. While driving to find a parking spot a woman, standing in the middle of the street, waved her hand at me to stop, but then continued to stand where she was. I am sorry, but I think you have to be pretty drunk to not realize that you are standing in the middle of a city street! Once we found parking, we walked through a series of people acting crazy and puking on the street. Even the nice friends helping their sick friends were becoming physically ill. What resulted was this horrible smell that seemed to over take my girlfriend and I. When we finally got home, we couldn’t shake the disgusting feeling.

As I sit in a coffee shop writing this, the employees are bragging about the party’s they went to, how drunk they got, and how everything after 10:30 is a blur. What makes that so cool? I realize as I write this that I probably sound like an old man, but I hope there are other people out their who feel the same way I do. Every time someone asked about New Years I am reminded of the people emptying the 75+ bucks of liquid they just bought on to the street. I then think to myself about the person who just asked me… Were you one of them?
